Uganda needs at least 400,000 units of blood every year, according to Dr. Dorothy Kyeyune Byabazaire, the Uganda Blood Transfusion Services director.
“Several sicklers need constant blood transfusions. We also have cancer patients who need platelets and plasma. There are people in surgery, patients in the Women’s hospital and others who have had motor accidents who also need units of blood,” Dr. Birabwa-Male said.
As a result of the high need for blood transfusions, St. Joseph Vocational Training Center Kamuli yesterday 27th February 2020 partnered with the Uganda Blood Transfusion Services (UBTS) under the Ministry of Health/ Uganda Red Cross Society by donating Blood. Over 200 students and staff members donated blood with the aim of Saving Blood.
