The outbreak of Covid-19 with its subsequent impact like the closure of schools affected Uganda Blood Transfusion Services’ blood collection efforts since students contribute 95% of blood needed for transfusion. The closure of schools therefore caused a physiological shortage of blood in different hospitals. This has since created the need for massive blood donation campaigns in different parts of the country.
As part of the efforts to support this cause, St.Joseph Vocational Training Centre Kamuli chose to partner with Uganda Blood Transfusion Services (UBTS) in carrying out the blood donation campaigns.
This was done on Friday 24th June 2022 at the institution under the theme “Donate Blood Save Mothers”.
The campaign was successful as more than 100 units of blood were collected against the target of 200 units.
The Principal of St.Joseph Vocational Training Centre Fr. Ferdinand Ntunzwenimana was the first donor and he appreciated the students for responding to this voluntary call and encouraged many more people in the country to come out and support such efforts aimed at saving the lives of other.
